Meet MCD in Berkeley, as we continue to explore the wide world of scents. Starting at the Berkeley Rose Garden with the immersive fragrances of 1,500 rose bushes in full bloom and continuing to the Aftel Archive of Curious Scents!

This event is in celebration of MCD’s current exhibition, Living With Scents, which showcases 40 innovative designers whose work activates new sensory and olfactory experiences. We’ll begin by gathering for morning coffee and pastries in the Rose Garden, followed by a brief ¾ mile walk (15 minutes) to Aftelier Perfumes. Founded by Mandy Aftel, her global collection includes one-of-a-kind artifacts, century-old books, and over 200 natural fragrances derived from fruits, flowers, trees, grasses, and resins. We will have the chance to smell natural essences, see and touch raw ingredients and other curiosities, learn the histories of scents and perfumes, and explore the outdoor Garden Annex. Join us for this interactive experience!

ABOUT THE AFTEL ARCHIVE OF CURIOUS SCENTS

The Aftel Archive of Curious Scents is a singular natural perfume museum in Berkeley. Conceived of by Mandy Aftel, artisanal perfumer, collector, and author, the archive houses treasures and elemental fragrances that engage the senses and exemplifies Aftel’s years-long dedication to her craft. The collection and experience guides visitors through deconstructing the components of perfumery while celebrating its lasting allure.

Aftel’s Archive has been featured in The New York Times, Vogue Magazine, Goop, and Louis Vuitton City Guide.
