Member Visit: Autodesk Creativity Workshop on Pier 9

January 27, 2016 @ 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Members at the Supporter level and above ($250+) are invited to join us for a guided tour of the Autodesk Workshop at Pier 9 on San Francisco’s Embarcadero. This is a community of designers, engineers, artists, and product innovators who explore new ways of making things using state-of-the-art production tools and machinery.

The 12,000 square-foot creative workshop is equipped with advanced production tools as well as traditional machinery, shops for CNC machining, 3D printing, wood- and metal-working, and more. It has pretty much every type of fabrication equipment you can think of. The idea is to put all of these things together in one space and make it available to two groups of people: Autodesk staffers, who develop the software that makes the machines run, and a group of artists-in- residence, who use both the software and hardware in new and out-there ways. It’s an incredible space, because of the impressive equipment and the wildly creative things that have been produced using it.

We will also observe the artists in residence (AIR) program which gives artists, makers and fabricators an opportunity to work with Autodesk in their digital fabrication workshops. These artists explore, create and document cutting-edge projects and share them with the Pier 9 community.

Free to members at the Supporter level and above ($250+),  but pre-registration is required. Send an email to rconlin@sfmcd.org to register.
