MCD Members Tour: Ewa Gavrielov + Diane and Rob Master

Saturday, February 29, 1–4 PM
Registration is required.
This special tour is reserved for Insider level members ($250) and above. Admission is complimentary. Please contact Christina Humphreys at chumphreys@sfmcd.org to register.

Join the Museum of Craft and Design in Palo Alto for a tour of artist Ewa Gavrielov’s studio, followed by a reception and tour of Diane and Rob Master’s unique and thoughtfully designed home.

Ewa Gavrielov’s inspiration comes from an interest in giving new meaning to everyday, used objects and materials, transforming common and discarded materials into uncommon and precious artworks. In this tour of her home studio, Gavrielov will demonstrate the various techniques involved in her work, including the use of printing presses, screen printing, linocut and monotype printing. She will also discuss her practice of recycling materials to make paper and collages as well as repurposing old monotype prints by shredding and knitting with them.

Guests will then tour and enjoy refreshments nearby at the home of Style founder Diane and Rob Master. Their adobe home, designed by architect Gregory Ain, was built in 1939 and constructed out of clay bricks made from the hillside behind the house. First owned by artist and actress Marjorie Eaton, who grew up in the Juana Briones house across the canyon from her eventual home, the house was designed to fit into the hillside with an amphitheater and stage for her performances. Now renovated to modernize it and save the adobe from disintegrating, it remains a unique home, filled with history, craft and an appreciation of organic and hand-made objects, all incorporating the personal mark of the artist upon the house and its contents.

Don’t miss this special tour for members at the Insider level ($250) and above. Not an Insider level member? Join or upgrade your membership today! Contact Christina Humphreys at 415.773.0303 ext. 304 or membership@sfmcd.org for questions or to register. Space is limited.
