    Director Collaborations to Shape Museum’s Future

    San Francisco, CA. July 2017 – The Museum of Craft and Design is pleased to announce the appointment of Tracy Bays-Boothe as the institution’s Associate Director. Bays-Boothe comes to San Francisco from Denton, Texas where she served as Director of the Greater Denton Arts Council since 2014. Prior to her tenure in Denton, where she led efforts to revitalize the nonprofit’s mission and brand, secure international exhibitions, and expand grant and education programs, Bays-Boothe spent a decade at the Dallas Museum of Art in the education department.

    Architectural Pavilions: Experiments and Artifacts

    March 07, 2017, San Francisco, CA – The Museum of Craft and Design is pleased to announce Architectural Pavilions: Experiments and Artifacts, opening to the public on Saturday, June 24, 2017. Transforming the Museum of Craft and Design into an immersive architectural environment for six months, the exhibition will demonstrate a range of contemporary pavilion projects, through a site-specific full-scale installation, as well as through material samples, small-scale models and digital renderings.

    Wendy Maruyama: The wildLIFE Project – Social Practice and the Illegal Ivory Trade –

    October 27, 2016, San Francisco, CA – The Museum of Craft and Design is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition, Wendy Maruyama: The wildLIFE Project, organized by the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft (HCCC). Through a moving installation of life-sized objects made from exotic woods and string, displayed alongside shrine-like forms made from steel and glass, the show makes a compelling case for the preservation of animals in the wild and specifically serves to illustrate the plight of elephants and the illegal ivory trade.

    October 27, 2016, San Francisco, CA – The Museum of Craft and Design is pleased to announce their upcoming exhibition, FELT DeCoded | Wool: Nature’s Technology, opening to the public on Saturday, February 11, 2017.

    From lacy wisps of wool to rock-like slabs, wool felt is a textile of extremes. “It is an extraordinary material with humble origins that has been an integral part of human life for millennia, yet few people understand the complexity of wool as a fiber, the felt-making process or felt’s diversity in form and function,” comments featured exhibition artist, Janice Arnold.
