MakeArt Family Day
May 6, 2023 @ 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Design outside the lines at MakeArt Family Day! Explore the exhibitions with our self-led MakeArt Gallery Games and get hands-on with exciting activations all throughout the museum. From collaborative art-making and toddler tactiles, to interactive storytelling and guest artist instructors–MakeArt Family Day offers creativity for the whole family!
Join MCD this May for a hands-on exploration of Fight and Flight: Crafting a Bay Area Life and Concrete Journals: Anne Hicks Siberell. Celebrate spring with guest artists and all new projects in the newly re-designed MakeArt Gallery– filled with prompts and materials inspired by the local artists of Fight and Flight. Immerse yourself in a Crochet Jam developed by Ramekon O’Arwisters, celebrate AAPI Heritage Month with Jojo Calligraphy, scribble up a storm with ArtBots, and create your very own autobiographical concrete journal-in-a-box. There will also be cyanotype sun prints in the parklet, whimsical soft sculpture wearables inspired by Alexander Hernandez, and more!
Composer JG Everest will create a springtime Sound Garden in Minnesota Grove—a self-guided, drop-in experience that uses layers of live performance and spatial sound design to activate natural spaces as a means to enhance and remember the way we experience them.
The Grove, just a short walk from MCD, will be laced with a unique outdoor sound installation created through multiple wireless speakers spread along the park’s path, each playing a different part of a piece of music. Be sure to first grab a Sound Garden MakeArt Kit with reflection prompts, a journal, and colored pencils to enhance creative memory-making in the Grove!
All ages welcome—craft your day with the whole family at MCD!
