MCD Curator Walk-Through: Catharine Clark + Al Farrow

November 17, 2018 @ 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM

Catharine Clark leads an opening day exhibition walk-through of Al Farrow: Divine Ammunition. Having traveled the nation, this exhibition comes home to San Francisco and will debut Farrow’s most recent piece, The White House.

Described as haunting, beautiful, disturbing, powerful, mesmerizing, visceral, exquisite and jarring, the works portray the majesty of the arched clerestories, complexly illustrated geometric patterns, magnificently constructed flying buttresses, gables, spires and minarets that characterize the sculptures and the materials used to craft them.

Join Catharine Clark in conversation with the artist, exploring the striking visual commentary presented by Farrow’s ornately rendered sculptures of churches, synagogues, mosques, mausolea, ritual objects and reliquaries. Created from decommissioned munitions, the exhibition examines the relationships between religion and violence, peace and brutality, the sacred and the unholy.
