“I use furniture to influence interaction with a space, an artwork or another person. The roof and walls encourage privacy, intimacy and inwardness. Lighting draws the gaze.” -Jay Nelson
Jay Nelson is a painter and builder who uses salvaged wood and plywood to construct temporary and permanent mobile and static structures that are often autonomous and sometimes site-specific. He built his studio in San Francisco, where he paints and drafts plans for houses, surf buggies, tree houses, camper vans, and surfboards.
Join Jay at MCD for an exclusive afternoon workshop experience where participants will construct their own Nelson-designed lamp from wood and brass pieces. The limited edition lamp you will create is mirrored by the one found in “Structure for Seeing 5,” Jay’s contribution to Architectural Pavilions.
Exhibition access, workshop + materials, cold beer + light refreshments included.
• $125 museum members • $150 non-museum members •
Only 15 total spots available. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
