Member Tour of “Cut from the Same Cloth: Textile & Technology”
March 22 @ 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
“Contemporary artists continue to find ways to turn the technologies of the future back into the art that subverts their original intent.” -Christine Duval, guest curator
MCD Members are invited to visit Palo Alto Art Center for a guided tour of Cut from the Same Cloth: Textile & Technology, led by Guest Curator Christine Duval and Palo Alto Art Center Executive Director Karen Kienzle. This exhibition explores how textiles have served as tools of change throughout history, and highlights the work of 18 artists, including Windy Chien and Lia Cook, whose pieces have been featured at MCD. During the tour, members will discover themes and techniques that resonate with MCD’s current exhibition RugLife.
Members are also encouraged to register and stay for the 3:00 PM program Talking Textile and Technology: A Panel Discussion. Design historian Sarah Mills will moderate a conversation with Guest Curator Christine Duval and exhibiting artists Hideo Mabuchi and Ahree Lee about the art world’s evolving relationship to textiles and their use by creative technologists.
