Mobile MakeArt: Beau McCall Identity Buttons at NightLife PRIDE

June 26 @ 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM

California Academy of Science

Join the Museum of Craft and Design’s Mobile MakeArt at NightLife’s Pride Month celebration!

Celebrate PRIDE at the California Academy of Sciences’s NightLife and swing by MCD’s art booth to create custom, Beau McCall-inspired identity buttons!

Artist Beau McCall of Buttons On! uses buttons to tell the stories of marginalized communities—highlighting the histories and experiences of the LGBTQ+ and Black communities through his lens as a Queer Black artist.

When creating wearable art, McCall’s signature style begins with a base of plain buttons. Onto this, he stitches identity buttons—symbolic pieces that elevate his work and infuse it with personal and cultural meaning.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

This PRIDE, design your own identity button using shrinky dink plastic!

Think about what you want the world to know about you, and start the conversation by creating a symbol you can adhere to your favorite outfit.
