MCD Library MakeArt: Potrero Hill Branch

March 9, 2019 @ 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM

In honor of Women’s Herstory Month at SF Public Library, MCD invites you to take part in craft inspired by the artwork of two San Francisco artists, Christine Lee and Ruth Asawa. Lee and Asawa are both known for using everyday materials and techniques such as weaving and patternmaking to create beautiful and monumental sculptures.

Christine Lee, whose work is on view at MCD in “Material Domestication” from March 16, salvages recycled and materials by building them into large and mesmerizing shapes.

The influential Ruth Asawa created hanging sculptures using hundreds of interlocked basic wire forms. As an educator, she encouraged children to use cardboard, egg cartons, wire, and other simple materials to spread their creativity into each day.

Join MCD to focus on these women artists and explore unusual and sustainable materials!
