Privacy Policy

The Museum of Craft and Design (MCD) strongly values and respects the personal privacy of all of our visitors. We are dedicated to protecting your privacy when you visit our website, shop at our online store, purchase a membership or make an online donation. The below privacy policy explains how we handle any personal information that you provide to us, or that we collect from you through the use of our website. MCD does not collect personal information about individuals, such as names and mailing or e-mail addresses, unless the individual visiting the website or online store knowingly provides it.  By visiting MCD’s website, you acknowledge that you are aware of and consent to the following practices.

 

Online Purchases

When you purchase a product from our Online Museum Store, we will ask for your name, billing and shipping addresses, telephone number, e-mail addresses, and credit card information in order to process your order. The MCD will use your credit card information only as needed to process your transaction and stores this information solely for the purpose of transactions made through the MCD website. Our shopping cart provider is fully PCI compliant and classified as a Level 1 Service provider.

 

Online Memberships and Donations

When you purchase a membership to MCD or make a donation online, we will ask you to provide us with the information we need to process your membership and/or to acknowledge your contribution. This information includes your name, billing and shipping addresses, telephone number, e-mail address, and credit card information. MCD will use your credit card information only as needed to process your transaction and stores this information solely for the purpose of transactions made through the MCD website. Our shopping cart provider is fully PCI compliant and classified as a Level 1 Service provider.

MCD’s Use of Personal Information

MCD uses the term “personal information” to describe information you provide to us such as first/middle initial or name, last name, e-mail address, street address, mailing address, telephone number, and any other information that would allow someone to identify you or contact you.  MCD may use the personal information that you provide for internal purposes such as filing and tracking your order.  MCD also participates in the Bay Area Big List, a cooperative database of arts organizations that pool contact and attendance information to better serve the Bay Area arts community.  You can opt out of having your personal information shared by MCD as part of the Bay Area Big List by sending an e-mail to [insert email address you wish to use.]  Except as provided in this Privacy Policy, we will never share or redistribute personal information with other organizations for their marketing or promotional uses without your deliberate prior expressed consent.  Please be aware, that MCD may use your personal information to provide various features and services for our users, members and visitors. These services may include, but are not limited to, MCD news, fundraising and/or promotional efforts and upcoming event communication. Anyone who wishes to stop receiving MCD communication can, at any time, click on the “Unsubscribe” feature located within each e-mail or newsletter.

Children

MCD is committed to protecting the safety and privacy of children. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under thirteen years of age.

Cookies

When you visit the MCD website, we may send one or more “cookies”, a small text file containing a string of alphanumeric characters — to your computer.  The cookies we use do not contain any personally identifiable information about you; they are generally used to gather information to analyze website traffic in order to improve our content and navigation, based on our visitors’ online behavior. You may choose to set your browser so that it does not accept cookies. Most areas of www.sfmcd.orgwill function without cookies.  For an optimal experience with our site, we recommend that you allow cookies.

Linking

The MCD website may include links to websites operated by third parties over which we have no control. Once you leave the MCD website, the MCD Privacy Policy will not apply, and you will have to access such sites at your own risk.

Changes to this Policy

MCD may amend this policy at any time, without notice, and with any changes to be effective immediately upon posting on the MCD website. Changes may arise in responses to changes in the law, policy or other factors.  We encourage you to periodically review this Privacy Policy to review MCD’s most current policy.
