Curator Walk-Through: Wunderkammer: The Collection of Susan Beech
February 7 @ 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Join us on the closing weekend of Wunderkammer: The Collection of Susan Beech for a special Curator Walk-Through with Natasha Kleit, Curator, alongside Susan Beech, the collector behind this extraordinary exhibition, and Tina Rath, exhibiting artist.
Together, Kleit, Beech, and Rath will guide guests through the galleries, offering personal reflections and curatorial insight into select works from the exhibition. Drawing from Susan Beech’s lifelong collection of art jewelry, Wunderkammer invites visitors into a contemporary cabinet of curiosities, one that is sumptuous, playful, and deeply personal.
Following the gallery walkthrough, guests are invited to gather in MCD’s MakeArt Lab for an informal Q&A, providing an opportunity to engage directly with the curator, artist, and collector about the ideas, processes, and passions that shape the exhibition.
Experience Wunderkammer through multiple perspectives and gain deeper insight into the relationships between collecting, making, and curating.
The walkthrough will conclude in MCD’s MakeArt Lab. Arrive early or stay after to explore the exhibition on your own.
Tickets: General Admission $10, Students and Seniors $8, MCD members FREE
Children 12 and under are always free.

NATASHA KLEIT
Curatorial Associate at the Museum of Craft and Design and curator of Wunderkammer: The Collection of Susan Beech
SUSAN BEECH
Susan Beech, an esteemed Northern California art jewelry collector and philanthropist, began purchasing art jewelry pieces in the early 1990s and quickly became an ardent student and supporter of the movement. Over the next 30 years, Beech came to know and collect the work of renowned art jewelers such as Marta Mattsson, Evert Nijland, Ruudt Peters, and Terhi Tolvanen. Today, much of Beech’s revered collection has been donated to the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC and to the Museum of Art and Design in New York. Wunderkammer: The Collection of Susan Beech is a showcase of nearly one hundred outstanding works that Beech has kept within her personal collection–the crème de la crème–pieces she wears regularly and couldn’t part with.
TINA RATH
Tina Rath is an American artist living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area. Tina’s practice moves fluidly between studio jewelry and drawing. She explores ideas in distinct bodies of work and projects guided by neuroaesthetics, Buddhist philosophy and explorations of beauty.
Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Museum of American Art, the Museum of Art and Design in New York, NY, the Mint Museum in Charlotte, NC, the Houston Museum of Art, Houston, TX, the Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas, TX and at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA. Tina’s work has been exhibited internationally and nationally.
