Gary Hutton: Designing For Collections
January 25, 2025 @ 11:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Join the Museum of Craft and Design and renowned Bay Area interior designer Gary Hutton in celebrating San Francisco Art Week. A longtime friend and museum collaborator, Hutton will explore MCD’s current exhibition, Ruglife, through the lens of his extensive career. As the defining element of many well-designed spaces, rugs are potent objects that reside at the nexus of fine art and functional design. Hutton brings insight from his over forty years of design experience for collectors and collections as we discuss what it means for art to be displayed in a domestic environment
Gary Hutton: Designing for Collections will include a facilitated discussion, a brief exhibition walkthrough, and a hands-on art activity inspired by Encoded Holidays – a 30-year collaboration between Gary Hutton and Tom Bonauro, exhibited at MCD in 2021.
Discussion and Walk-Through: 1:00 – 2:30 | Encoded Holidays Art Making: 2:30-3:30
