In/Visible Transparency: Design By Time

January 14, 2021 @ 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Join the Museum of Craft and Design’s Visible Transparency Project and In/Visible Talks 2021 in a behind-the-scenes look at upcoming exhibition Design By Time, featuring conversation with guest curators Ginger Duggan and Judy Fox of c2-curatorsquared, a peek into artists’ processes, and a look at the mechanics of exhibition layout and design.

PLUS, we will welcome the exhibition designers behind Design by Time, Lyn Rice and Astrid Lipka (Rice+Lipka Architects), for a conversation regarding exhibition design at large, and Design by Time’s development in particular.

Design by Time is the first exhibition to identify and bring together designers whose interest is in expressing the passage of time, a visual expression of life, through the design of objects. They come from across Europe and the US, 22 artists and collaboratives from 8 countries. There are both known and emerging practitioners, including iconic names, such as Maarten Baas and Hussein Chalayan, and recently graduated designers such as Jacob Olmedo.

MCD launched the Visible Transparency Project to provide a behind-the-scenes view into exhibition installation and design and offers visitors the opportunity to watch as this creative process unfolds within the museum’s galleries. MCD is committed to making the museum-going experience more accessible to all.
