MCD Curator Walk-through: Material Domestication

March 16, 2019 @ 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM

Material Domestication will feature the work of six contemporary artists who utilize disparate cultural backgrounds as a framework for sculptural explorations invested in skill, material and identity.

On this opening day walk-through, hear from guest curator Elizabeth Kozlowski in conversation with artists Mi-Kyoung Lee, Adam Shiverdecker and Christine Lee about the exhibition’s investigation of materiality and technique. Typical processes found in the exhibition include needlework, knitting, weaving and other historical fiber based techniques. Based on slow production and repetitive making, these practices are often rooted in the notion of craft as women’s work, and Material Domestication acts as an attempt to dismantle such dualities of gender.
