Music Box Presents: Steve Kilbey & Amanda Kramer

An Evening with Steve Kilbey (The Church) and Amanda Kramer (Information Society, The Psychedelic Furs) will feature songs from Steve Kilbey & The Church’s rich catalog, as well as interpretations of songs by other writers, as he and Amanda recount their decades-spanning careers of playing on the stages of the world, via a tapestry of music and storytelling.

This month we get into the spirit of Raw Design by creating all of your own art materials, from scratch! Experiment with how to make milk paint, modeling clay, rainbow crayons and more. Take your creations to the “Test Tent” in the parklet to try out your custom supplies, then stick around for a special opening day exhibition walk-through with guest curator Glenn Adamson.

Learn more about how Raw Design illustrates an interesting moment in the history of technique, where designers seem to prefer inventing new processes around traditional mediums. MCD Assistant Curator Ariel Zaccheo will also contribute to the conversation surrounding the work of beloved designer and furniture maker Judy Kensley McKie and the creative collaboration she has shared with Artworks Foundry in Berkeley.

Raw Design: Exhibition and Design Mixer

Kick off SF Design Week at the Museum of Craft and Design for a special party hosted by MCD Salon, a new young design collective. Start the night off with an interactive talk and tour of MCD’s three new summer exhibitions, including “Raw Design” curated by Glenn Adamson. Special guest speakers include Lisa Ellsworth and Charlie Leese, followed by hands-on crafting with marble polymer clays, vinyl spinning, plus bites and cocktails inspired by the exhibitions. Join us for a fun evening exploring design through art, jewelry, food and cocktails! Two complimentary drink vouchers included with each ticket purchase.

We kick off this month’s festivities at 6:00 PM with our Artist Happy Hour at and book signing featuring the brand new art book, “Hate is What we Need.” In this clothbound, hardcover volume, acclaimed artist Ward Schumaker transforms the egregious utterances of the 45th president of the United States of America into provocative text-based paintings. Hear from Ward about the creation of the book and then explore his unique stenciling technique by replicating the process on your own canvas tote. Come early to enjoy a complimentary glass of wine and MAKE hate into love!
