Picking up threads of the handmade in our impersonal digital era, Kenji Nakayama, Amy Sinbondit and Ben Venom utilize traditional craft techniques to construct objects that communicate in nontraditional ways: through symbols, through typography and through gestures.

These three artists stem from different traditions, each with a long history, each with a unique vocabulary, each with a self-contained community of practice. These communities are often closed, accessible only to those who speak an almost secret dialect of ceramics, quilting or sign-painting.

Grab a glass of wine and learn more about each artist, their craft, and how they relate to their respective communities in an exhibition walk-through with co-curators JoAnn Edwards and Ariel Zaccheo.

Then, visit the MakeArt Lab for your chance to try Kenji Nakayama’s sign-painting tools and pick up a template and instructions for Ben Venom’s quilting technique!

Presentation, gallery access, activities, wine, and light refreshments included.

• $10 non-members
• $5 students/seniors
• members FREE
