Museum of Craft and Design Cofounder and Executive Director to Retire in 2024

The Museum of Craft and Design announces that its cofounder and executive director, JoAnn Edwards, will retire in 2024 after over twenty years at the helm of the institution. In 2013, Ms. Edwards secured the museum’s permanent home in the historic Dogpatch community, making MCD a pioneering cultural hub for this now, vital area.

Existing as a record of time, Anne Hicks Siberell’s 100 concrete journals capture over four decades of the artist’s life.

April 15–September 10, 2023

Among many other projects parallel to book-making and writing, Siberell has been a visual diarist since the 1970s. Her Concrete Journals series exist as a record of time, collaging elements of the artist’s life and encasing them in concrete. Curated by Ariel Zaccheo, this exhibition features a collection of approximately 100 of Siberell’s concrete journals.

Their responses are evident in their artworks. From them, we get a sense of what it takes to make it in the Bay Area now.

Celebrating Bay Area treasure Ted Cohen’s life, methods, and career through a museum exhibition design retrospective

February 12–June 5, 2022

As one of the Bay Area’s most respected exhibition designers, Ted Cohen created inspirational museum, gallery, and private art environments for collectors for 62 years. The exhibition follows Cohen’s published retrospective book The Object in Its Place: The Art of Exhibition Design by Ted Cohen, written by Signe Mayfield, and pays tribute to his life, career, and methods in exhibition design. Cohen handpicked each artwork for the exhibition, creating a selection from some of his favorite places, artists, and collectors giving visitors an inspiring glimpse into the aesthetic “worlds” he created over the years.
