Thousands of arts fans stream into S.F. museums thanks to free-ticket weekend

When San Francisco Museum of Modern Art opened at 10 a.m. Sunday, museum director Christopher Bedford was there to hold the door. He was still holding it 45 minutes later without letup. In that stretch, 1,132 people came through, and he did not recognize one face of a regular visitor. SFMOMA normally gets that many people in a full Sunday. But this was not a normal Sunday.
