Craft + Chat Workshop with Greg Climer

August 15 @ 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Museum of Craft and Design

Part artist talk, part sewing circle, part creative hangout!

Join Video Craft artist Greg Climer for Craft + Chat at the Museum of Craft and Design, a relaxed sewing workshop where conversation and making go hand in hand.

The afternoon begins with an informal artist talk in which Greg shares how technical skills can serve as a pathway to deeper conceptual thinking, and how craft, from textiles to fashion to video, can communicate personal narratives and cultural histories.

Then participants will create their own appliqué textile collage on a tote bag while sewing, chatting, and exchanging ideas. Whether you’re an experienced maker or picking up a needle for the first time, this workshop is an opportunity to slow down, make alongside others, and reflect on the stories we tell through our creations.

Inspired by works in Video Craft as well as artists and designers who use craft as a storytelling medium, this workshop invites participants to gather around the table with Greg Climer for an afternoon of making, conversation, and shared creative inquiry.

All materials are provided; participants are also welcome to bring their own fabric scraps or textiles to incorporate into their piece. Come stitch, share stories, and make something meaningful together!

Space is limited to 20 participants to foster an intimate, conversation-driven experience.

TICKETS

General Admission $25, Members $15, Students $20
Museum admission is included with your ticket.

ABOUT GREG CLIMER

Greg Climer is an American interdisciplinary artist whose work explores queer identity, masculinity, memory, and the evolving relationship between craft and contemporary art. Working primarily with quilts, knitting, portraiture, and digital technologies, he transforms traditional textile techniques into ambitious contemporary works, including animated quilts and knitted films that blur the boundaries between moving image and handmade object.

His work has been exhibited internationally and is included in the permanent collections of the de Young Museum and the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art. Recent exhibitions include the Museum of Craft and Design in San Francisco, Atlanta Contemporary, the Mint Museum, and the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles.

Alongside his studio practice, Climer is an educator, curator, and arts leader committed to expanding the role of textile art within contemporary culture. Drawing on backgrounds in fashion design and museum leadership, his work advocates for craft as a vital and evolving language of contemporary art.
