We are thrilled to be partnering with OBJECTS: USA exhibiting artist Nik Gelormino for a woodcarving workshop at MCD. Gather with us in the galleries for a making experience rooted in wood and the simple pleasure of shaping the material by hand. Using a carving knife and working directly with Gelormino, participants will learn the fundamentals of woodcarving: exploring grain, texture and techniques as a rough piece of wood is slowly shaped into a tactile form through patience and human touch. No prior experience is necessary. All tools and materials will be provided, and each participant will leave with a hand-carved object.

Join us for an opportunity to learn from a practicing artist, connect with the material, and experience making something by hand.

General Admission $80, Members $70

ABOUT NIK GELORMINO

Nik Gelormino (b. 1986, San Francisco) is an artist living and working in Los Angeles. He received his BFA from The Cooper Union in New York in 2008. Working primarily in wood and metal, Gelormino explores form through an emphasis on handmade processes and a playful engagement with functionality. Situated within the fields of sculpture and design, Gelormino’s work prompts audiences to consider the integration of art and daily life. Gelormino’s practice marries an attention to detail and craft with a witty irreverence in a manner that is distinctly Californian. His work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions internationally and is a featured artist in OBJECTS: USA at the Museum of Craft and Design.
