Back by popular demand! Our second annual gingerbread architectural models workshop. Spend the afternoon designing and building your own model, good enough to eat. Choose from an assortment of fun building materials, such as candy, cookies, banana chips, and hot peppers!

Recycled Plastic Fish Art

Jerry Takigawa’s photography exhibit False Food examines responsible design by looking at ocean pollution and our connection to the world around us. Engage in an important conversation about the artist’s work,
then take your discoveries to the Craft Lab to create fish sculptures from
materials that are often perceived as garbage. During this workshop, learn
more about SCRAP and East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse, important
organizations in our community that work to repurpose these materials
and support local educators. Snack included.

Robot Collages

Never fear, in this workshop you’ll craft your own picturesque 3-D landscape nestled inside a pocketsize tin. Use modeling clay to illustrate a landscape from your imagination, or model yours after California landscapes! Please note: these pieces will benefit from oven-baking at home after the workshop. Coinciding with the opening of Good Design: Stories from Herman Miller, this workshop will draw inspiration from chairs featured in the exhibition by this iconic manufacturer. Explore the form and function of ergonomics, and build a small-scale chair model alongside your family. Experiment with using a variety of materials, from wire to foam to cardboard.
